Yes. The Psycho-Sleuth demo is free on Steam, and after the full game's release the developers confirmed it would remain available for everyone to play at no cost. In their launch announcement, they stated that even after the full release, the demo will stay on Steam as a free way to try the game.

How Much of the Story the Demo Covers

According to the developers' September 15, 2026 release-date announcement, the demo covers Chapter 1 plus the mystery setup of Chapter 2. The full story is made up of five chapters, a figure the developers have given in their own posts — it appears in an April 2026 development log and again in the November 2026 streaming guidelines. In that April log, they also invited players to download the demo and experience the beginning of the mystery for themselves.

What Demo Updates Changed

The demo changed over time rather than staying frozen in its first form. In the launch announcement, the developers said they went back and polished it with several additions:

  • More cutscene content, including clues and foreshadowing worked into the scenes.
  • Reworked pacing across cases, deduction, combat, and story.
  • New voice acting added alongside the existing performances.

Earlier, a November 30, 2025 demo update responded to player feedback on combat feel by adding hotkey customization and refining the pacing and animation flow of Debate sequences. A later update on September 17, 2026 brought overall performance optimization and additional vocal variations for certain characters.

Controller and Steam Deck Support

The September 17, 2026 update announced that controller support is now live and that the game is fully compatible with Steam Deck. The full Steam feature list also includes Full controller support, Keyboard Only and Mouse Only options, Playable without Timed Input, and Save Anytime. The store listing shows full audio support in Japanese, with English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean among the supported languages.

Should You Play the Demo Before Buying?

If you are unsure about the tone — a cult-run death game where cognitive disorders warp crime scenes — the demo is a free way to find out. The base game is $17.99 on the US Steam store, and the Deluxe Edition bundles the base game, soundtrack, and artbook according to the developers' launch announcement. Third-party key sellers such as Green Man Gaming also list the game at $17.99. Details like how the demo's save data interacts with the full release are not officially documented yet, so the safest expectation is Chapter 1 plus the Chapter 2 setup until the patch notes say otherwise. For reference, you can find the game on its Steam store page.
